Thursday, February 5: Paul Safar and the Tsunami Baby Grand, Featuring Steven James
——————————-
Paul says:
Hello,friends-
Thank you all so much for coming out to the Great Beatles Sing Along last week. With our large and enthusiastic audience, we raised well over $1000 for OCAN!
I am now gearing up for our next concerts:
On Thursday, February 5th the dynamic pianist/composer Steven P James will take over the piano bench presenting his program :
Oregon Soundscapes.
Steven says:
"Oregon is a land rich in poetic possibilities and endless landscapes: jaw-dropping mountain peaks with roots in the ancient past, roaring waterfalls aglow with rainbow mists, violent waves pounding weathered rocks, and vibrant cities that bring together cultures from all over the world. Oregon Soundscapes Project celebrates our environmental and geographical wealth through the time-honored but endlessly fertile medium of solo piano miniatures. In this concert, composers from the Pacific Northwest will showcase their skill in crafting imaginative and concise works that capture the essence of a place in just a few minutes of vivid music."
This will be a special concert of unique piano music from Northwest composers. Please come out to hear the talented Steven James, a Portland native, recent graduate of the University of Oregon School of Music who is currently pursuing graduate studies at Peabody Institute in Baltimore.
Included in the program, Steven will play a short piano piece of mine entitled "Zumwalt Prairie", inspired by the grasslands in the Northeast corner of our state.

The rest of our Spring First Thursdays at Tsunami are:
On Thursday, March 5th, my Cascadia Composer colleagues come down from Portland and present an evening of improvisational new music! This will be a fundraiser for Cascadia Composers(NACUSA), an organization I am deeply grateful for!
And then on April 2nd, poet Bo Adan and I will present a Spring themed evening of words and music, an appropriate combination for this wonderful bookstore.
I will then take May-Sept. off of the Tsunami series and return in the fall with more unique collaborations, premieres and fun!
I leave you today with a recording(and video) of Steven James piano trio No.1 "Currents"
