Folks, Tsunami Books is thrilled to host the Book Release Celebration for the first book both written and illustrated by our co-worker Emily Poole. In the nine years since she started work at the Bookstore she’s illustrated 6 books, 3 Country Fair Posters, posters for the Mt. Pisgah Wildflower and Mushroom Festivals, numerous other festival posters, as well as having created a successful line of cards and prints, all this while curating our growing new book selection. We are rearranging the place to accommodate a significant Art Showing for the month of September, including a roomful of Emily’s originals for every home.

About Emily

Born and raised in the mountain town of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Emily Poole has been exploring the wild spaces of the western United States since shortly before she could walk. Emily holds a BFA in illustration from Rhode Island School of Design and has created work for organizations such as Creature Conserve, HawkWatch International, and the National Museum of Wildlife Art. Her work has appeared regularly in High Country News, and she has been the illustrator on six natural history books, including BirdNote: Chirps, Quirks, and Stories of 100 Birds from the Popular Public Radio Show and Northwest Know-How: Trees. She lives in Eugene, Oregon and was voted 2025 Best Artist in Eugene by the Eugene Weekly.

"My upbringing in a wild space in the mountains has greatly influenced how I see the world and the art I create. A lifelong love for nature and animals has guided my work into the realm of conservation. My goal is to use artwork to engage the public in learning about what's going on in the natural world and what we can do to protect it. I believe that playful and accessible images are the key to effective science communication." -Emily https://www.epooleart.com/
