SPECIAL COMMISSION WORK FOR ILA ROSE and FUNDRAISER FOR TSUNAMI BOOKS

Sale Price:$10,000.00 Original Price:$20,000.00

TRANSMIGRATION

$10,000.00

About this early masterpiece (acrylic on canvas) Ila Rose recently wrote: “This painting is titled “transmigration.” I painted it about five years ago. The original exists in Tsunami Bookstore, in Eugene, Or. Transmigration is the journey the “soul” or spirit takes after leaving the body. This painting was painted over another, “life, in passing”- a painting about the intersection of that instance of birth and death, outside of time or space. that is to say, there is a painting underneath this image that you can’t see. I was planning to take the spirit of this painting on a journey of constantly shifting physical form, regularly repainting it while retaining one piece of the last image until finally burning it...alas, it was sold before it could meet its maker.”

In offering this work for sale Tsunami Books looks to accomplish ONE THING of merit to both Ila and the Tsunami Community: 1) Immediately use half the money received to commission Ila to paint a replacement canvas, of similar size, no other parameters.

Ila has accepted the terms.

This painting has been a part of the Community Events Room at Tsunami Books since 2016. It measures 39 3/4” x 53” in the frame, where it presently resides unattached. The frame was constructed by James Kramer utilizing reclaimed old growth Douglas Fir originally used as shelving at the Bohemia Mill quonset hut in Row River.
